📖 About This Campground

Hetch Hetchy Backpacker Campground in Yosemite National Park Hetch Hetchy area provides primitive tent camping accessible by hike-in campers only. Consider and managed as a "back-country" campground wilderness permits are required to camp here. Close to the dam and access to back-country trails. Located near the main parking area for Hetch Hetchy with water and restrooms available this campground is often used as a stop over for back-country hikers to meet up with family. Picnic tables, fire rings and bear boxes are available. From NPS website: Backpackers' campgrounds are available for wilderness permit holders to spend one night before and one night after a wilderness trip. Reservations are neither necessary nor required. However, a valid wilderness permit is required to stay at the campground (PCTA permits are only valid at Tuolumne Meadows). Half Dome day hiker permit holders may not stay at backpackers' campgrounds. The fee is $6 per person (pay using envelopes at the campground; exact change required). Parking is not available at campgrounds; instead park at designated overnight parking areas and walk to the backpackers' campground.
