Yosemite Creek Campground

Yosemite Creek Campground in Yosemite National Park California provides primitive tent and small RV/ truck camper camping situated off Tioga Road via a partially paved and partially gravel/ dirt road (the few miles or so are paved the remainder is dirt). The access road follows the former path of the Tioga Mine Road and it is this road that makes Yosemite Creek Campground unique. The long steep road is 4.7 miles in length and once off the pavement is dusty, bumpy and overall slow going. As a result this campground tends to not fill completely and tends to be used by a more dedicated camping audience. Sites have picnic tables and fire rings. All sites are first come first served and there are some significant difference between the various sites. The first options upon entering the campground are sites in a forested setting (sites 1-21). As you go further into the campground the terrain changes to a loose boulder type of ground with sites located in and around large stones. Finally a bridge crosses Yosemite Creek and provides access to more sites interspersed around large boulders. There is no potable water available and only pit toilets. Multiple hiking trails depart this area. Situated at almost 8,000' in elevation evenings are cool. The campground is open seasonally May thru Sept or as conditions permit. The remote location requires campers to plan ahead and come prepared. Pack out what you pack in. Whether the campground is opened or closed the road coming down from Tioga Pass Road is an excellent opportunity for bicyclists to ride inside Yosemite National Park. The over 9 mile round trip is very challenging with the long steep climb to Tioga Pass Road from the campground. There is a parking area just off Tioga Pass Road
