Porcupine Flat Campground

Porcupine Flat Campground in Yosemite National Park California offers primitive tent and RV (small) camping adjacent to Tioga Road. Tucked off the road a bit this quiet unassuming campground provides campers with a more natural camping experience. Most of the sites are relatively private (notably the further back you go). Porcupine Flat Campground is also a sneaky option for larger RVs who can easily fit in sites 1-3 out in front (do not proceed any further into the campground though as you will get stuck!). Sites 40+ are accessed via a narrow and bumpy road that requires care navigating in anything bigger than a Yugo. Sites are available on a first come first served basis and generally the campground never fills completely even during peak seasons. Vault toilets are available but no potable water is. Picnic tables, fire rings and food storage boxes are available at each site. A self registration kiosk is located at the entrance. All of the sites are situated in a heavily forested setting. No hiking trails depart from this campground the location is better utilized as an overnight camping spot travelling in to or out of Yosemite. Open seasonally the shaded nature and high elevation, 8,100', make for cool evenings.
