📖 About This Campground

Camp 4 in Yosemite National Park California is a primitive tent campground available to first come first served guests on the valley floor. Open year round. Due to high demand this location, and all Yosemite National Park campgrounds, have instituted significant rules regarding length of stays and registration/ camping procedures. These rules change almost seasonally so do check the official NPS site for current restrictions. A total of 35 individual sites spread out in an open dirt area, with some shade from large trees, adjacent to the Valley floor loop road. The campground is not quiet and not peaceful but who cares... you are camping on the valley floor of Yosemite! A restroom is available with potable water and flushing toilets. The tent only campsites are "walk-in" with a designated parking area located about 200 yards from the first campsite. Hand carts are available to move your gear from car to camp and back again. Permits are required to park in the Camp 4 parking lot and are strictly enforced. No car camping is allowed and again this is strictly enforced. Camp 4 is adjacent to the trail to Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls and is within shuttle or walking distance of all the Valley floor trails and amenities. Pay showers are available for a fee at Half Dome Village. Groceries are available at Yosemite Village. If you bring a bicycle you can access the entire Valley floor area via the paved multi-use trails (a very efficient way to get around during busy times). Sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Shared food storage boxes are available and all food and scented items are required to be stored inside (don't leave food or scented items in a vehicle!). No pets are allowed. Camp 4 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its nationally significant role in the development of rock climbing as a sport.
