📖 About This Campground
Straits State Park Campground in St. Ignace Michigan has fantastic views of the Mackinac Bridge (from a handful of sites) and the boat traffic going under the bridge on the Straits of Mackinac. The park has a picnic area, playground and waterfront area along Lake Huron. Partial and primitive (no water, electric, or sewer) hookup RV and tent camping on multiple paved loops with dirt grass sites the park is busy during peak season. Well laid out and relatively easy to access campers with both tents and RVs are capable of finding really nice sites within this park.
For RV owners we advise units under 35' as the best options to more easily fit in a wide variety of sites. There are a few larger sites but they can be difficult to fit in. Sites are located with shade trees and surrounded by mowed grass. Multiple trails meander through the property and guests are within a short walk of the areas grocery store. Sites have fire rings and picnic tables; water spigots are dispersed around the grounds.
Straits State Park is immediately adjacent to the famous Mackinac Suspension bridge and is easily accessed via the Interstate. A few play areas are available for kids as are shower houses and restrooms with running water. The location next to the lake does mean you should bring heavy doses of bug spray as mosquitoes can be very active in the park.
Canoeist and kayakers can venture out in to the waters but caution is warranted as the Straits of Mackinac are noted as the most turbulent waters of the Great Lakes subject to strong currents.
Multiple dump stations are available with easy access for any size RV.
