📖 About This Campground
Staircase Campground in Olympic National Park offers 47 RV and tent camping sites on a first come first served basis. "All alone" on the southern side of the park this small campground is located in a popular area for locals. Accessed via a graded and often rough/ pot-holed dirt road (until the National Park entrance where it becomes pavement) the campground is situated in an old growth forest with plenty of shade.
Adjacent to the Skokomish River just north of Lake Cushman this pretty place to camp provides picnic tables, fire rings, bear boxes, restrooms and potable water spigots (in summer). Open year round. A few larger RV sites can fit 35' units but the majority are for 21 feet or less. Overall the campground is better suited to tent campers with RVs better served at the Forest Service Big Creek Campground.
Hiking trails depart the area. A ranger station is located here. Locals take a short drive down to Lake Cushman and swim and dive around the shore. The Lake Cushman area is home to a large number of vacation and summer cabins which leads to this area having a significant amount of traffic during peak season.
The best sites are tent camping sites down near the riverside.
The park is not far into the National Park allowing guests to adventure out in to the neighboring forest service via off-road vehicles (street legal) and mountain bikes.
