📖 About This Campground

Cayuse Horse Camp is a premier equestrian campground nestled in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 19 miles north of Cle Elum, Washington. Situated in a mixed-conifer forest at an elevation of around 2,300 feet, it offers direct access to several scenic trails, including portions of the Pacific Crest Trail. The campground is typically open from late May through mid-September, depending on snow conditions.


๐Ÿด Campground Features

  • Campsites: 14 equestrian sites (11 single, 3 double)

  • Corrals: Each site includes a corral (max 3 horses for single sites, 4 for doubles)

  • Amenities:

    • Vault toilets

    • Hand pump or spigot drinking water (for human use only; campers must use buckets to fill horse troughs)

    • Picnic tables and fire rings with grills

    • Manure collection area

    • Ample parking for vehicles and horse trailers

  • Restrictions:

    • No high-lining or hobbles allowed

    • Horses must be sociable as corrals share common boundaries

    • No off-road vehicle use in the campground

    • Campground is accessible only to recreationists accompanied by stock animals

    • Maximum occupancy: 6 people and 2 vehicles per single site; 12 people and 4 vehicles per double site

    • Extra vehicle fees apply ($8 per day for single sites, $10 per day for double sites)

  • Fire Restrictions: A Stage Two Fire Ban is in effect, prohibiting campfires and open flame cooking with wood, charcoal, or wood pellets. Propane gas can be used if it has an on/off switch. No smoking in the open; smoking must be done either in your vehicle or within a building. Fireworks are prohibited.
