About Sunset Campground (CA)
Sunset Campground is in the Grant Grove area of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park. Very close to Grant Grove Village in an open stand of evergreens this popular campground has reservations during peak seasons and a short period of time when it is first come first served on the shoulder seasons. Sunset Campground is home to a handful of primarily tent camping sites with some of the most amazing views available in a campground. Sites 40, 41, 49, 50 and a few more over near the 100 loop sit on the edge of the hill with nearly unobstructed views looking down into the Central Valley. If you are going tent camping in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park then these are the sites you want to stay in... the look west into the sunset!
All of the sites in the campground have picnic tables, fire rings and bear boxes. Restrooms with running water and spigots are dispersed around the campground. Sunset Campground is built along the mountainous terrain with paved roads and parking pads. the roads in some cases can be very steep and or winding. Sites are available to accommodate RVs with a general rule of thumb saying that the shorter the better.
Numerous trails depart this area and connect to the neighboring campgrounds, Grants Grove of trees and the Village area. The Grant Grove area has groceries, showers and information.
