📖 About This Campground

Warren Dunes State Park Campground in Sawyer Michigan offers partial and primitive (no water, electric, or sewer) hookup RV and tent camping near three miles of shoreline, six miles of hiking trails and is open year-round. It also has a dune formation that rises 260 feet above the lake with spectacular views and 1,952 acres of recreational opportunity. The campground has two designated areas "modern" and "semi-modern"... what they define as such is rather amusing. The only difference is that modern has electric utilities, restrooms with running water and a paved main road. The semi-modern sites have none of the above. Yet both campgrounds do have water spigots dispersed around the park and both provide access to the park amenities. The modern campground loops are more popular and crowded with a mix of tent and RVs in sites that are relatively close to one another. The park is popular during the summer and it is not unusual to find the campground full mid-week in July. Expect lots of family, fires and friends. For RVs larger units (up to about 40') can fit in a number of sites but the park was not designed for these size units and can feel a bit tight; we would recommend sticking to the National Park rules for this one and staying under 35' in RV length. A dump station is available and again 35' or less sized units will have an easier time accessing. The semi-modern campground is our pick for tenters. The sites have a bit more privacy, it feels less busy and you are less likely to have RVs as neighbors. The downside here is that the toilets are "pits". That being said an insider tip is to use the "fancy" restrooms in the modern area; just bring the bikes along it is a short ride. Warren Dunes State Park Campground is close to the sandy beaches along Lake Michigan. Popular for summer play these beaches are an enjoyable place to hang out and take a dip in the reasonably warm waters. Hikers will enjoy the quiet forested trails meandering through the park. Warren Dunes State Park Campground is close to civilization so food, fuel and supplies are a short trip away. Lastly there are a few small cabins available for rent in the modern camping loops. They are tiny units but give the camping feel without the hassle. Advanced reservations can be made and are encouraged.
