📖 About This Campground

Shelter Cove Campground and RV Park in Shelter Cove California is located on the "Lost Coast" of California. Providing full hookup RV, partial hookup RV and tent camping in an open setting on naturally irrigated soil (grass depends on recent moisture). Pull thru and backin sites on a slight grade with majestic views of the rugged Northern California Coastline. Sites have picnic tables and the office has a small store with supplies. There is a restaurant on site with tasty fried and specialty foods (popular for tourists coming to the area too). Access to this park is via the very windy and narrow two-lane road from the Benbow Area. Novice RV drivers or those not sure about their abilities should not try this route. There are numerous switchbacks, hairpins and steep elevation changes. Call ahead to local chambers of commerce or the park for current road conditions. Although big rigs can fit in the park you are, frankly, better off not taking a large coach or trailer out to this destination. The final decent is via a long and extremely steep decent. The Cape Mendocino Lighthouse, inactive, is located in a lot just across the road from the campground. There is a black sand beach located on the northern side of Shelter Cove. There is a boat launch located just across and down the slope from the park. The community is very very remote and primarily draws anglers, surfers and others looking to experience an incredibly remote beach experience. The RV park and campground is a place you come for the location, views and unique place to stay. the property is immediately adjacent to a small airport for private, non commercial planes. It is lightly used by single and dual prop planes that take off or land over the cliffs of the ocean.

Incredibly remote yet beautiful location. For smaller trailers, Class B, Class C, Class A coaches under 35' this is a great destination. For longer rigs, excluding you tough ones, this is a place best visited from an inland home base. Windy, twisty and steep the location is incredible when the weather is right.
