📖 About This Campground

McGrath State Beach Campground in Oxnard California offers RV and tent camping in primitive sites adjacent to the Pacific Ocean. The popular yet often closed, due to flooding, campground provides sites with picnic tables and fire rings. Not far from the harbor or civilization McGrath State Beach Campground has paved roads and parking pads with dirt tent sites. Small RVs and tents are allowed. The campground tends to get closed after flooding following long droughts or summer conditions. A sand bar forms damming up the Santa Clara river and flooding the campground. Located along the Ventura County coast this campground is within 20 minutes of millions of people so will fill when open. Reservations can be made. The beach is nice for sunbathing and surfing.

Clarification from the editor: the campground IS opened and closed seasonally depending upon the flood situation. It has been opened multiple times over the last 5 years.

If your are scouting out this location- please verify that it is still open. The review by Mr. Koep (3-18) indicates that they are closed and open certain seasons depending on the water level. I have only see this location closed for the last 5 year. Happy camping!!

McGrath State Beach will open a limited number of campsites Friday after floodwater again receded from the oft-closed state park. The popular campground near Ventura Harbor opened for about four months last year, but closed in January when water started creeping back into the park. In a sort of revolving door of flooding and drying out, McGrath seasonally floods as water builds up in a nearby estuary. During the recent drought, however, campsites remained underwater and closed more often than not. https://www.vcstar.com/story/news/special-reports/outdoors/2018/03/29/mcgrath-state-beach-ventura-california-open-limited-number-campsites-friday/471222002/
