Castaic Lake State Recreation Area Campground

Castaic Lake State Recreation Area Campground in Castaic California offers primitive camping at Lower Lake/Lagoon for RVs and tents. Not a well developed campground the location is primarily used by guests looking to fish or boat on the main lake. Sites are set in a parking lot style campground on the eastern shore of lower lake. Although the campground borders the lower lake waters there is no swimming allowed in this area. Accessible for most sized RVs this campground has always been an after-thought to the park managers and is not a desired "destination" type of campground. It is primarily used by guests that are participating in some sort of activity at the park. On the west side of the park Castaic Lake is home to excellent mountain biking and hiking trails. The main lake is also a very popular boating destination on weekends and holidays. Castaic Lake Lagoon offers a wide variety of recreational activities, including fishing, picnicking, camping, non-gasoline powered boating and swimming during summer only. The lagoon has approximately 3 miles of shoreline and 197 Acres of shallow waterways suitable for float tubes, Kayaks,and non gas powered boat fishing. The maximum depth of the lagoon is approximately 70 feet deep. Handicap accessible fishing pier and 24 hour fishing area parking are located at the campground entrance. Shoreline trails are accessible from the campgrounds.The East Side Lagoon offers anglers 24-hour shoreline fishing. Shoreline fishing is accessible from the east side only. NOTE: Mandatory boat inspections are required of all boats! Serious fines are possible from non-compliance. There is a dump station and water fill on site. The nightly fee is reasonable at $20/ night (as of 2017).
