About Waxmyrtle Campground
Waxmyrtle Campground in Dunes City, Oregon is located 8 miles south of Florence within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The campground is situated near the beach, several hiking trails, and a non-motorized section of open dunes. These nearby attractions, combined with excellent campground amenities, make Waxmyrtle an ideal camping destination. Waxmyrtle also borders the picturesque Siltcoos River Estuary, where wildlife viewing is a popular pastime for campers.
Camping is available from May 1 through September 30 and amenities include drinking water, a campground host, flush toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, recycling, and trash collection. Parking aprons are paved.
The campground is located near the Siltcoos River and is situated among shore pine, huckleberry, and other coastal shrubs and conifers. Many sites are surrounded by a thick wall of coastal shrubbery, providing ample privacy from neighboring sites. The campground is part of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, which is known for its wind-sculpted sand dunes towering up to 500 feet above sea level.
The campground serves as the starting point for the Waxmyrtle Trail, which follows the Siltcoos River as it winds its way to the Pacific Ocean. Other nearby trails include the Lagoon Trail and the Chief Siltcoos Trail. Nearby off-road vehicle trails and open dune riding areas provide hours of fun for off-road enthusiasts.
