Lathrop State Park, established in 1962 as Colorado's first state park, is situated near Walsenburg, Colorado. The park encompasses 1,451 acres and features two lakes—Martin Lake and Horseshoe Lake—offering a variety of recreational activities.
Accommodations: Lathrop State Park offers two campgrounds with a total of 103 single-family campsites:
- Pinon Campground: Features 82 sites, some equipped with 50-amp electrical hookups. These sites are suitable for tents and RVs.
- Yucca Campground: Contains 21 non-electric sites, ideal for tent camping.
- Boating and Fishing: Martin Lake supports water skiing, power boating, and sail boating, while Horseshoe Lake is ideal for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing.
- Hiking and Biking: The park offers approximately seven miles of trails suitable for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
- Golfing: The park is home to the 9-hole Walsenburg Golf Course, providing scenic views of the Spanish Peaks.
