Elk Prairie Campground — Virtual Tour

Elk Prairie Campground in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park near Orick California offers year round primitive RV and tent camping. Drinkable water, restrooms and hot, coin-operated showers are available. There are no hook-ups or dump stations at the park but water is available at spigots dispersed around the campground. During the summer season, generally from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the campground is on a site-specific reservation system. Because the campground is usually completely full in the summer; reservations are strongly recommended. Sites 1-7 and 69-76 are suitable for larger RVs (although the State Park officially limits guests to trailers of 24' or RVs of 27') these sites are also out in the open sun with no shade trees. The remaining sites are tucked in to an old growth forest with a number of massive Redwood trees around. The very pretty camping location has paved roads with a mix of paved and/ or gravel parking pads. Fire rings, picnic tables and bear boxes available. This campground and area is heavily patrolled by park rangers and camp hosts; don't come here unless you plan on following all the rules! There is a visitor center and amphitheater for seasonal ranger led activities and information. A number of amazing hiking and biking trails depart this area. Located at the southern end of the scenic Newton B. Drury Parkway cutoff from US 101. This area is also incredibly popular due to the namesake elk. The adjacent prairie is one of their seasonal haunts and you can regularly sit out and enjoy admiring the massive animals in a large herd roaming the prairie. If you are wondering where to camp in this area for a family vacation or bucket list trip you can't do much better than this campground. Nearby Gold Bluffs Beach Campground is also an excellent choice. See the park in standard format
