📖 About This Campground
Wawona Campground in Yosemite National Park California on the south-side of the park is situated along the banks of the South Fork Merced River providing primitive tent and RV camping. A short drive from Wawona Visitor Center and Mariposa Grove this campground is best enjoyed staying in the B and C loops. Loop A is immediately adjacent to the roadway with sites that are relatively exposed with little privacy. Loops B and C in contrast offer more private sites away from the road for quiet camping.
The popular campground is open year round (Loop A only in winter) and reservations are required during peak season. Wawona Campground has multiple bathrooms with potable water and flushing toilets. Close by in Wawona is a store with groceries and a dump station. The campground has sites that can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 35 feet. In addition there is 1 group site (left of the entrance fully exposed to the road - a really bad place to camp) and 2 horse sites (trailers up to 25') all 3 need to be reserved in advance.
The adjacent river is very scenic and enjoyable. Wawona Campground is situated at 4,000 ft so can be warm during hot times and tends to be a bit buggy.
No trails depart this area Wawona Campground is best used as a stop before entering or when leaving Yosemite Valley. It is a long winding drive from Wawona down to the Valley Floor; using this as a home base to visit the floor is not a good solution.
Paved roads with dirt sites. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring and bear box.
