I have been trying to get a reservation at this Corps of Engineers campground for a few years but they were always filled. There's only 30 sites and winter camping in Florida is at a premium but I managed to get a few days in this last week and there were not that many other campers there. The campground is on an island in the Okeechobee Waterway system and all 30 sites are on the water. There are also 8 boat docks available for rent. There are a few pull throughs but most of the sites area back ins, fairly good size and there is extra parking for a tow vehicle if needed. All sites have water and electric and there is a dump on the way out. They all have fire rings, tables with a roof and a grill. There is a nice fishing pier and lots of jumping fish and waterfowl. Beautiful view of the dam and lock on the waterway. We were greeted by an eagle soaring and lunging in the water to catch a fish and saw a few more eagles over the water during our stay. There's trees at all the sites but not too much shade. And it's very windy all the time but it felt good because it was so hot. There's a bench and picnic shelter at the point where you can watch gorgeous sunsets. Good security, 2 hosts on duty and after 5:00PM they lock the gate so you need to use the code to get in. Campground is only 20 minutes from Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres with lots of shopping and attractions. Very nice campground, I'll definitely try to get reservations again.
