Shawnee State Park Campground

We had booked our site with over the phone with a live rep with Ohio parks and watercraft. We advised that we had a 23 ft travel camper We arrived at 7pm and of course the check in was closed with a sign that read proceed to your campsite and check in when we open at 8: am. When we arrived at our sigh 42 there were 20 steps leading up a hill to our campsite and no place to park our camper. we called the afterhours phone number, and no one answered, so we slept in our camper in the parking lot. The next morning, we waited for the gate host to open (no camp host on sight) by 9:30am no one had arrived to open the gate, and no one was answering the phone. Frustrated we left and called Ohio parks and watercraft, explained what had happened, but they refused to cancel our reservation stating that same day cancellations must be done at the campground. we kept telling them that no rep was at the campground. Ohio parks called the number to confirm that no one answered but still refused to refund our money. We eventually had to make a new reservation at another park

Good news, as of 2017 Shawnee has 18 new modern campsites with water, 50/30 amp electric and sewer. Beautiful large grassy sites. 16 are pull through at 100' plus in length. Enough room for my 44' fifth wheel, truck and additional vehicle.
