Pleasant Valley Pit Campground near Bishop California is a BLM campground serving winter visitors and is particularly popular with climbers visiting the area, open from November to early May with approximately 75 sites located .5 miles off of Pleasant Valley Road. Accessed by dirt roads this campground is best suited to tent campers and RVers with smaller RVs or the willingness to get things dirty.
Pleasant Valley Pit Campground is used by tens of thousands of guests per year!! and affords scenic vistas of the Sierras in the distance. Not free but incredibly cheap (as of 2016 it is only $2 per vehicle) the camping area is a popular winter destination in the area. Located north of town the campground is up on a hill side and depending on rains, traffic, and other variable may be easy or hard to access (all dirt roads).
