Monarch Spur RV is on the east side of Monarch Pass on Route 50, not quite at the foot of the mountain so it's at a high altitude. The sites are gravel, level and shady. There's a beautiful tent area by the river and many hikers use this campground as a base and can get some supplies from the office although not much food. Community fire ring and sitting area, nice rustic community room. Lots of cottonwood trees were shedding their cotton when we were there mid-July and it looked like snow although the temp was close to 100 and there was still snow at Monarch Pass. Hunting, fishing, skiing and snowboarding close by. Some rental cabins. Playground on a lower level near the river. No cell service but the office let me use their landline for calls and delivered a message for me right to my site....more than helpful. About 5 miles from Poncha Springs and 13 miles to Salida.
