📖 About This Campground

Fort Running Bear RV Park 26 miles north of Mountain Home Idaho provides full and partial hookup RV and tent camping sites near Little Camas Reservoir. A membership based park the location has an existing member base of about 250 "owners" that pay an annual fee to be able to use the facility as they want. The location does not advertise itself to a wide audience and is strict about not allowing repeat visits unless the guests plan to become members. This adds up to the park being relatively non-busy and available for short term travelers passing through the area (notably during peak summer season when "everything is full" in Boise). Nightly rates are available and run in the mid-$40 per night range. The only "con" to the park can also be viewed as a major "pro" it is located 3 miles off US 20 on a well maintained yet incredibly dusty forest service dirt road. The soil type in this high desert sage area is very loose resulting in a surface that emits dust in clouds with every tire rotation no matter how slow you travel... your RV and tow vehicle (or trailer) will get a coating of dust entering and leaving the park. As a benefit the park is located at the end of this road so there is very little traffic into or out of the park making for an incredibly quiet location. Inside the park the roads and parking pads are packed dirt with plenty of mature shade trees and watered/ mowed grass surrounds. All sites are backins (some can be called pull thrus due to their alignment but not in the typical pull thru style) and have 50 or 30 amp hookups and picnic tables. Some sites have concrete patios. There are designated sites for members only. All sites are smartly angled to the drives making backing in easier. Being a destination place there are a number of family friendly activities and places to play including a pool, mini-golf, rec room, game room, basketball hoops and walking trail. Anglers are encouraged to bring their rods and fish the local reservoirs. Off-road enthusiasts can explore miles of trails and outdoor lovers can marvel at the amazing vista around this park. Call ahead for availability. Due to the membership style the park does show signs of deferred maintenance and age; everything is functional just not fancy.

Camping Pro

This place is paradise and we stumbled in to it. Coming into Boise in July it turns out all the parks were full. Used CampgroundViews to find this place and so glad we did. First off the road is 3 miles long off the highway and it is dusty... go slow. The park is beautiful large trees, grass and amazing views. Very quiet at night and a very nice swimming pool. Great fishing nearby and forest all around. As an amazing bonus Verizon 4G was solid and fast! We would absolutely stay again.
