📖 About This Campground

Duck Neck Campground in Chestertown Maryland is located along the Chester River, a tidal river connected to the Chesapeake Bay, and Rabbit Creek on the Northeast side of the park. Surrounded by rural and scenic farmland the park is close to historic Chestertown home of Washington University (the 3rd oldest in the country). There are two distinct areas of the park. The first, and largest, is the seasonal camper area. Accessed via a gated entry guests have RVs with patios and additions as their second home. About 300 of these sites exist in a heavily wooded area. the second area is a short term and overnight guest area. Full hookups are available along with 20/30/50 amp hookups. Short term guests have choices between a grassy area and water or water front campsites. the water front campsites offer scenic views of the Chester River. There is a camp store, pool, cafe, propane fill, boat docks, fishing docks, and boat launch. guests have a covered pavilion.  The park is an excellent destination for relaxed enjoyment. Super high speed internet is available in the office area for short term guests. Cell service including Verizon is spotty in this area. We stayed here for a week and truly enjoyed our stay. The park is located way out in the countryside past some organic farms. The on-site managers are very friendly and so are the seasonal. During the week the place is very quiet and on Friday that is when it picks up. On the weekends there are lots of guests and scheduled activities. We enjoyed the direct access to the river for fishing and walking around the grounds of the property. The the guests with the seasonal sites appear to have nice boats and golf carts their sites are located in the trees while the overnight guests are located in an area with more Sun and some shade. The camp store is very nice and has lots of supplies an ice cream parlor and Deli. Pool is good size but not heated. Being in very rural Maryland has a unique feel. Although you are only 80 miles from Washington DC there aretolls required to get there. In fact there are tolls from pretty much any direction to get here just keep that in mind. The only non-toll route is to enter from the north. Verizon coverage is available but spotty. Wi-Fi service at the camp store is amazingly fast.

This campground has recently come under new ownership, and it shows. The new owners have upgraded the bathrooms, general store and laundry. The "over night" area is tightly spaced, but you won't notice that unless you camp here on a major holiday. It is located on the Chester river. The far side of the river is not developed, so it provides quite nice ambiance, and absolutely stunning sun set views. The area of MD east of the bay is quite rural, rustic, historic and dotted with some rather good wineries. My wife and I stayed here for 6 weeks - this is not a 1 night review. It is a really nice spot, and I'll definitely come back!
