📖 About This Campground

Buffalo Bill Ranch State Recreation Area Campground in North Platte Nebraska offers partial and primitive (no water, electric, or sewer) hookup RV and tent camping adjacent to the Historical Park, which makes it easy to tour the ranch house and barn that Col. William F. Buffalo Bill Cody built for his home in North Platte during the heyday of his famous Wild West Show. Located down a 1 mile long dirt road there are multiple backin sites close to the North Platte River. In addition there is a nice dedicated tent camping area set on mowed grass (you will need to carry your stuff in to the sites a 100 yards off the road). One RV site is available for handicap use and it is a concrete backin with patio close to the restrooms. Water is available from multiple spigots along the inland row of campsites. An onsite camphost keeps the peace and a small kayak launch is available. Fishing from shore, spot birds, or walk over to the horseback riding stables, petting zoo, and historic park grounds. The location is quiet at night and easily accessed from the interstate. For anyone travelling to Cody Wyoming or even passing through the area this is a unique place to camp with a history that will hit home to all Americans.

Oh boy we lucked out on this one! Happened to stay here overnight on the same weekend as NebraskaLand Days and the 135th annual rodeo! What an amazing experience to be able to visit the rodeo while staying on the property once owned by the man who made rodeo famous. It was a 1.5 mile walk from camp to the front gates of the rodeo grounds and was ethereal on our return trip as the road was lighted by the flickers of lightening bugs in the grass. The campground is 1 mile back on a dusty gravel road set alongside the North Platte River. Sites are all backins with picnic tables and shared fire pits. Most the of the neighbors were locals who use the spot to vacation and hang out. The site was long enough for our big rig to fit and stay hooked up although it was not perfectly level. A camp host is onsite and was a nice guy. Water was located behind the inland side campsites and tool an extra run of hose to fill our tanks. We paid $34 for the night and enjoyed our overall experience. verizon 4G was solid.
