(Because everything looks better when you blur your vision and lower your standards.)
Every RVer has arrived at a campsite, stepped out proudly, surveyed their domain, and thought:
“…Okay so it’s not perfect.
But if I squint… it might be.”
Because sometimes perfection is a matter of perspective.
And sometimes it’s a matter of choosing not to see the dumpster behind the trees.
Let’s celebrate the art of optimistic squinting.
🌳 1. “The View” Depends Entirely on Eyelid Position
Eyes open:
You see a power pole, your neighbor's sewer hose, and a mysterious pile of gravel.
Eyes half-closed:
Wow. Nature. Peace. Serenity. Magazine-worthy.
Squinting gives you the emotional filter that reality refuses to provide.
🪵 2. The Picnic Table Looks Better From a Distance
Up close:
Warped. Damp. Covered in ancient carvings. Possibly sticky.
From 12 feet away and through slightly narrowed eyes:
Rustic. Charming. Vintage. Pinterest-core.
Amazing what a little blur can do.
🛣 3. The Pad Is “Basically Level” (If You Believe Hard Enough)
Fully open eyes:
The rig leans like it’s trying to start a conversation with the earth.
Squinty eyes:
Perfectly level. No adjustments needed. Definitely not rolling in your sleep tonight.
Denial?
No.
Optimism.
🌤 4. The Weather Looks Great… Until You Actually Look
Normal vision:
Dark clouds. Gusty wind. A forecast that screams “turn back.”
Squinted vision:
Bright-ish. Sun-adjacent. Pretty much tropical.
If your eyes refuse to accept incoming rain, it can’t hurt you.
🧩 5. The Neighbor Situation Improves With Blurred Vision
Eyes open:
They’re very close.
Like… emotionally close.
Like… you could tap their RV with your elbow.
Squinting:
Plenty of space!
Lovely privacy!
Feels like your own little oasis!
(Just don’t open your eyes fully or you’ll see Gary waving from his dinette.)
🗑 6. The “Not a Big Deal” Campsite Flaws Vanish Instantly
That fire ring full of someone else’s ashes?
Gone.
That mystery smell behind the post?
Gone.
That awkward angle you have to park at?
Gone-ish.
All thanks to your new favorite camping tool:
Squint Mode.
🏕 7. By Sunset, Everything Looks Magical Anyway
Even the imperfect sites get a glow-up when the sun dips low:
-
the gravel sparkles
-
the trees soften
-
the flaws blur
-
the mood lifts
And suddenly you don’t need to squint anymore—
the campsite really does look perfect.
(At least until morning.)
💬 Final Thoughts
Every campsite has:
-
beauty
-
flaws
-
questionable geometry
-
an unexpected noise
-
a few “that wasn’t in the photos” surprises
But with a little squinting and a lot of good humor, even the weirdest, wonkiest, wildly imperfect sites become wonderful.
Because the truth is:
the perfect campsite is the one you decide is perfect…
even if you have to blur it a little.
